  • Tour Itinerary

    Day 1:
Your trip starts in Reykjavik Domestic Airport wherefrom you will fly to Ilulissat. Upon arrival to Ilulissat your further journey to Oqaatsut (15 km) depends on the ice condition of the sea. If possible, you will go by boat. Sailing between enormous icebergs from the UNESCO listed Ilulissat Ice fjord is a magnificent experience. The sailing takes from ½ to 1 ½ hour, and you will walk the last 15 minutes over the frozen sea and into the settlement of Oqaatsut.
If the ice condition is too difficult for the boat, you will be driven to Oqaatsut with a snow mobile.  Upon arrival in Oqaatsut, you will check in to the small local hotel and enjoy a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant (two course). Accommodations in a twin room with shared facilities.

    Day 2:
This is your first full day in this winter wonderland. After breakfast in the hotel restaurant, you will go on a dog sledding adventure at 10.00. You will meet the dogs and musher on the frozen sea. After a brief introduction, the tour starts by gliding on the sea ice. After some 15-20 minutes, you are back on the ground. The rest of the tour is mostly through horizontal terrain and frozen lakes towards the Ilulissat Ice fjord. Enjoy the cold fresh air and the silent remoteness that can only be experienced while riding on a dog sled in Greenland. You cannot help but admire the strength and tempo of the Greenlandic sled dog. Before it is time to head back to the settlement, your musher will find a beautiful spot to let the dogs rest. There, you can enjoy a cup of hot tea and warm up a bit.
Lunch will be ready for you back in the hotel.

*It is possible to extend the dog sledding tour to a full day tour. If you choose this option, you will experience a two-hour sled ride to a very steep ascent that takes about 1 hour to climb. From the top you will have a mind-blowing view over the Ilulissat icefjord. A view you will never forget. Additional cost 90 EUR.

In the afternoon coffee/tea and cake will be served in the hotel café where the wood burning stove  will keep you warm and cosy. Feel free to rest before dinner (two course). Accommodations in a twin room with shared facilities.

    Day 3:
After breakfast, you have time to explore the settlement on your own, or go ice-fishing. Leaving the fishing line in the sea for 3-4 hours usually results in catching various fish when we go back to check the line.

Lunch will be served in the hotel restaurant/café.

In the afternoon, it is time to get an inside glimpse of the life in this remote settlement. A local family will invite you to their home for a traditional Greenlandic “Kaffemik”. That is a beautiful get-together with coffee and cake – a time to get to know about the local traditions and life.

Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant (two course). Accommodations in a twin room with shared facilities.

    Day 4:
The tour has come to an end. If you have not gotten enough dog sledding, you can choose to go back to Ilulissat by dog sled (upon availability and if the weather allows). It takes about 2 hours. If not by dog sled, then you will travel by boat or snowmobile – we must go with the flow, and see what the weather and ice conditions allow.
From Ilulissat Airport you will fly back to Reykjavik.

NB. It is likely that you will see northern lights during your stay, but we can of course not guarantee it as it depends on the aurora activity and the cloud cover in the area.
