Hiking in the Arctic
Imagine waking up on the world’s largest island, unzipping your tent and seeing the sunrise perfectly mirrored in the glassy Arctic sea to the sound of…silence; barring some wind, and maybe some waves near the shore, you get the idea. Greenland has some truly immense backcountry. You are pretty likely to see nobody else.
Though we build our homes next to the nature, our hearts are always happiest in the great outdoors.
World’s Largest Island
At 2,166,086 km2, Greenland is the world’s largest island. Now, you might be thinking : isn’t that Australia?” Well, no. This is because Australia is a continent whereas Greenland is an island. What about Madagascar? Madagascar holds the mantle of the world’s oldest island. See Greenland compared with Australia and Madagascar.
It is peaceful, calm, serene and you get to be completely immersed in all of it. Imagine escaping the hustle and bustle of work and the city life, the buzzing and all of the notifications and emails. Imagine spending day-after-day having the adventure you always dreamed of; glaciers, mountains, icebergs and the vast wilderness are just a few of the things you will experience on one of our tours. We are of course talking about hiking in the Greenlandic Arctic.
Now, what do we mean by Arctic? Well, the technical definition of Arctic is a region where the highest summer temperature (July in the northern hemisphere) does not exceed 10 celsius. Pretty simple, right? Almost all of Greenland, except for some regions of the south, fit this definition.
